Microstim Acupuncture

What is MPS (Microcurrent Point Stimulation) Therapy?

MPS Therapy, or microstim acupuncture, is the world’s first integrative therapy developed exclusively to sympathetically DE-Regulate the ANS (autonomic nervous system) and fight chronic pain by combining the principles of traditional Chinese acupuncture with modern neurological science.

MPS is one of the most actively researched approaches in the broader field of electrotherapy, and is a safe, drug-free alternative to help alleviate a multitude of chronic pain conditions, reduce anxiety symptoms, decrease stress and cortisol, relax muscle tone, as well as release endorphins--the body's natural pain killers.  This multi-pronged effect on the body's nervous, muscular and endocrine systems is the reason why it works so fast and effectively with many chronic pain conditions.

How Does it Work?

Based on traditional Chinese acupuncture, the MPS device locates and applies concentrated DC microcurrent (2-5 pps at ~1 milliamp) to therapeutically active acupuncture and trigger points for the purpose of relaxing muscles, calming the nervous system and releasing endorphins--the body’s natural painkillers.

The Dolphin Neurostim produces microcurrent stimulation as a DC current at thousands of times less in strength than traditional TENS devices and is delivered in a manner to “resonate” with the nervous system. Direct Current (DC-used in MPS) flows in one direction, is found in nature and “runs” your heart and nervous system. This can influence dramatic cellular changes in organs, tissues and fascia, and for this the Dolphin has been called “microcurrent biostimulation” because of its reported benefits on cellular physiology and growth.

The power of integrating these healing techniques for the nervous, muscular and endocrine systems into one protocol means MPS can produce far superior outcomes over traditional pain therapies or in conjunction with other modalities in less time. No wonder MPS Therapy is now the first choice for treatment of chronic pain by over 40,000 therapists and hundreds of hospitals worldwide!

The results are so impressive using this approach that complete or substantial relief (60-85%+) from pain often occurs within 1-3 applications. (Reference article links below)

Is it like a TENS unit?

Not at all!  TENS uses alternating Current (AC), which has a back-and-forth flow of current, and powers most of our household appliances and traditional TENS (Transcutaneous Electro Nerve Stimulator) devices.  AC stimulation is man-made and is not found in nature.

AC current essentially "tricks" the brain into focusing on the stim so once it's removed, the pain can return quickly.  This results in TENS units having to be set at higher and higher strengths and worn longer to achieve pain relief, until eventually it can become ineffective altogether.

How many applications are required?

Most patients require 2-10 treatments for lasting outcomes, with some chronic conditions requiring ongoing applications.  Over time, these maintenance treatments may be spaced out weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly.  There are around 200 protocols which can be easily individualized to any client's needs.

MPS therapy can provide relief for a number of chronic pain conditions, such as (but not limited to):

        Arthritis

        Back pain /Sciatica

        Knee/hip Pain

        Tendonitis

        TMJ

        Inflamed joints

        Sports injuries

        Scars &Adhesions

My Credentials

I was initially certified in 2007 by Bruce Hocking, the originator of E.T.P.S. (as MPS was then called) and

began using it immediately in outpatient physical therapy with amazing results. Most condistions I treat are pain related, although I am also skilled in scar release as well.   I have successfuly completed the Ultimate Pain therapy course, Advanced Circuits, Auricular therapy, Advanced Scar Release, Women's Health, Sensory issues, Trigger point, Family health, Special scars, Breast health (i.e. masectomy scars, etc.), and Lymphatic restorative therapy. That's over 100 hours of training! I have around an 85% success rate, mostly in pain reduction and in some cases eliminating pain altogether.  I am happy to share some of my best success stories!  The best thing about this type of modality is that there no harmful side effects, no drugs, and no surgery.
